Secondly, bypassing the RCP means that N64 quirks like the 4kb texture cache are irrelevant. Firstly, the N64 CPU is not very powerful, but it seems powerful enough to run Doom games. Rendering an entire game using this method was almost never done. CPU framebuffer modification is primarily used for things such as the crosshairs in Jet Force Gemini, or the pills in Dr Mario. The only notable commercial exception was Namco Museum 64, which was rendered entirely on the CPU. Most N64 games are rendered using the Reality Co-Processor. The homebrew renders all graphics on the CPU and blits pixels directly to the N64 framebuffer, bypassing the Reality Co-Processor entirely.
